Advantage?

Listening to the radio the other day the local morning show was talking about what holiday is better, 4th of July or thanksgiving?

So in the gambling spirit lets do a comparison...

Food:
Advantage 4th of July: I know that some will argue this with me but lets face it, if we loved the yams, cranberries and raisins in the stuffing there would be drive threw places where you could get thanksgiving dinner year around.

Alcohol:
Advantage, 4th of July: think about this one, a cold beer or mixed drink on a hot sunny day versus the 5 gallon jug of crappy wine that your aunt got from the next door neighbor who home brews this crap.

Family:
Advantage, Thanksgiving: sitting around the table giving thanks for the year with the family is much better than the drunk conversation your trying to have with underage girl friend of your nephews.

Activities:
Advantage, Thanksgiving: The after dinner nap while watching NFL football is much more desirable than trying to play the once a year volleyball game that you get suckered into.

End of the Night:
Advantage, 4th of July: Being able to sit back and see all the young gals dressed in skimpy summer clothes under the fireworks is much better than dealing with the god-awful x-mas sweater that aunt Francis put on to show her spirit.

Seasonal Movies:
Advantage, Push: This is really up in the air due the crappy summer blockbusters that have been out the last couple of years. It is either 200M summer crap or the start of X-mas season movies all full of sappy seasonal crap....So this is a push.

Looks like 4th of July gets the nod as the better holiday by the score of 3-2 with one push....Happy holidays everyone!

Holiday Season

I love this time of year....And at the same time it bothers me some. I love the time spent with my wife, my boys, my family. I love the music and the emotion that goes along with it all. I love the old movies, A Christmas Story is our all time favorite and as the boys get older they remind me of Ralphie and his little brother. I love the late nights wrapping presents and thinking this might be the last year Dominic really believes in Santa...Hoping to make it the most memorable.

with all that said as a parent I wish I could offer my family more, bigger trees, buying presents with a little larger spending limit and even new decorations for around the house. It is a time we all spend to enjoy the gift of giving and at times I wish the gifts were a little brighter, have a little more shine, were softer or louder, faster........With just a little more "wow" factor.

I know that it shouldn't matter but it does, it does because for some reason I judge a part of my success of being a husband, father, a family man on some of those ground...I mean how can you not.

So every year about this time I am trying to figure out how to do it all and I get a little bit of a pit in my stomach because I know that I am going to have to be the bad guy at times by saying "no we can't afford that" or "no that is just a little more expensive that what we should spend" or "no we can't be part of this exchange or that".

So in the mean time I do a little dance and enjoy the season but until I can catch up on what I forced my family to sacrifice over the last couple of years with school and staying home this time of year will have a little bit of tarish to it.

Funny thing is that it only seems to matter to me, my wife loves me, my kids love me, my family loves me despite of the situation....And that more than anything else makes this still my favorite time of year.

Lets Get a Grip Please!

As Packer fans we are perverted, I mean really perverted. We have two wins and seven losses....That would be 2-7. As I am listening to the local sports radio show they were actually trying to justify the Packers making the playoffs. This blew my mind, people we suck. Just because we won one game doesn't mean we don't suck it just means that we suck a little less than last week in the overall scheme of things we still suck. The offense is limited in what they can call and cannot be very creative due to the fact we have a receiver by the name of Taco on the field and a running back that up to three weeks ago was planning to go to Med school because there was not a team that wanted him.

This is what I ask of the people out there, please be realistic in the fact the Packers are done for the season. So instead of talking a miracle come back lets give the Pack some credit for not coming apart at the seams during the crappy times and earning their salaries in bad times which will justify the good time pay.

Ok people...Are we clear?

The Sky is Falling......

I love this time of year, you know the one...The anticipation of the first snow fall. It is all over the news and it is really quite funny. 3/4 of the news cast is about the snow. Are we ready for it, is there enough salt, are the plows in place....blah, blah, blah.....

Ok I know they have to cover it but it is almost as bad as when they know a snow storm is coming is the middle of winter.....The anticipation is always worse than the actual.

As Ubercool sis said..Yawn!!

Shhhh......

It is 4:10am and I have to work this Saturday morning....Yeah it sucks. I have a problem though. The coffee just beep, beep, beeped that it is done but I am too tired and cold to get up and get some. I didn't put any socks on this morning yet and my toes are numb and the blanket is warm. Oh wooies me, what to do, what to do.
