Happy birthday to son #1

I remember when

It was seven years ago today that Dominic was born and you want to know the best thing about the whole birthing experience? It was the fact that Jen and I got to spend almost a whole 36 hours before our very first visitor showed up. It happened to be Mags that showed up with camera in tow, which I know she has pictures of, maybe she'll post a few on lumiere for us to see.

It was 80 degrees out that day, not bad of April 30th. The sun was out, people were on their way to the Metrodome to see a afternoon twins game, which I contemplated going to, but instead I went home, by myself for just a couple of hours of sleep. I didn't sleep.

----> flash to today

The birthday party of a 7 year old, with 9 boys and even one toddler (unexpected responsibility I might add....). And it went off without a hitch. I can't compliment jenny on doing a better job, it was awesome. I just sat back, made sure that things were cleaned up and put away so when the day was done a simple wipe of the counters would be all we needed.

So take a look at the carnage that was the day.

Happy Birthday!!!!

Happy B-day to my Dad.

I still cherish the fact that I am lucky enough to have him around. To a dad that never imposes but rather guides. I learned to think from my dad, you know to be able to sit back and believe in what I am seeing, to react, to be able to plan ahead all come from my dad.

There are defining moments in everyone's life with special people who are close to them. They are different for everyone and last only seconds but can burn memories deep and ever lasting.

I still remember the excitement of the day. The "Great" Dayne, Ron Dayne, who played for the Badgers at tailback was set to break the all time NCAA career rushing record and later go on to win the Heisman Trophy for the most valuable player later that season. As we entered the Stadium it was electric, we both new it was going to be special, just how special it was going to be would later be determined.

As Dayne got the ball he broke to his right, turned the corner and ran for about 15-20 yards breaking the all time rushing record. They stopped the game, did a bunch of P.R. stuff and the game went on. I couldn't tell you who they played or even how many yards he ended up with. What I do remember is the after the game they retired Dayne's number in a ceremony that was truly inspiring. As the crowd was going wild with all the white towels being waved over their heads I looked up to see the #33 being placed on the stadium forever, but rather than seeing the cloth drop from the #33 I saw my dad. It was only an instant but we made eye contact and it wasn't until that moment did I realize just how special it was. It wasn't until that moment did I realize that he didn't see me as little Paul anymore but rather as a friend, confidant, his son. The look was telling me to enjoy the moment and that these moments don't come as often as they should.

That was my moment with my dad and it will be one that I will tell my boys about, hoping that I have the opportunity one day to make that same unplanned but instantaneous connection.

Happy Birthday Dad..........Thank you

Love Paul

sad really

it is sad when she posts more than me, you can tell it has been really busy around here.

so this week I got my cap and gown delivered...it took me three day to open it up, it was just wierd. The only reason I opened it was because the kids really wanted to see it. I was actually nervous.

This week was a wierd week at work, very busy. My boss was out of town for the last three days and you would have thought the world stopped. apparently my co workers are a little afraid of making a decision without her there. there are two sides to this, one is why they are like that and two is it has to way on her that no one can make a decision without her.....we'll see how monday goes...could be interesting.

well we are now down to only three weeks left of school....yep only three more weeks.........oh did I mention only three more weeks.....

well tomarrow I will write more......still a little graugy from the day.....me....need.....sleep

Who's on first?

Who's on first?
Who!
On First?
Who!
I AM ASKING YOU!

As I sat at work yesterday we had some problems with what are called punch edits. These are the actual times people punch in and out for the day. Sometimes people will forget to punch out or even in for the day and we have to edit those to represent what they actually worked.

Well I got the call from one of the line leads and got the name:

Vong Xiong

He needed to punch out for yesterday. So I looked up his name and not only could I not find his out punch, I couldn't find his in punch either. So I asked Ka, yes Ka, as in ta ta for now, if he knew him.

"you mean her"
"her?"
"yep her"
"oh, well I can't find HER punch edit for yesterday"
"well are you sure it is Vong Xiong, it could be Xiong Vong"
"Xiong Vong?"
"Yep, in fact we have three Xiong Vong's"
"three?"
"yeah and we have two Vong Xiong's"
"so what you are saying is that it could be anyone one of the five?"
"right, and and to top it off three out of the five are female"
"so look up Vong Xiong"
"Vong or Xiong?"
"Vong"
"ok which one? there are two?"
"no not Vong, I meant Xiong"
"this is stupid"

Ok you get the point, we ended up having three people standing around the desk trying to figure out if it was Vong or Xiong and if it was a female or male.

Later that day I was bantering with Ka and told him I need to get him a "kiss me I am Irish" pin....his responce......."dude you rock"

I hate it when

I hate it when a boss throws out "I have plenty of applications to fill your positions...." When in a group meeting. I know that a lot do it, but I really don't like it because we all know the job market sucks and we could be easily replaced. But why hang people like that....Why even bring it up....To me it seems desperate.

the good news is that it wasn't directed at me and I really had no connection with the comment....It still irritated me a little....Oh well.

on the good note at work since starting my new job, in one month the production lines are more efficient thus able to run more product thus making the line leads very happy.....Pretty soon they are going to be expecting it.

This is just stupid

Due to our little adventure on Saturday night we went down to the local garage to have our rear passenger tail light replace due to the fact the officer told us it was burnt out. As the tech walked around to the back of the car he couldn't find a tail light out......WHAAAA????

"step on the break", so I did and the rear drivers side break light was out....So I looked at Jenny with a weird look on my face and she swore it was out.....or maybe I just really didn't pay any attancien to it, she said.

well as we sat there having them fix the rear tail light Jen noticed that the front driverside headlight was out.....again how weird is that.

anyway apparently I need to keep an eye out for this and make sure I am not getting a electrical short somewhere....

On other notes dominic's birthday is coming up and he is going to be 7...yep 7 years old, I know I can't believe it either. Well tonight we fryed out some steak me and the boys decided to hit a few pitches. I was outside throwing the pitches Dominic was making contact...And a far way too...Thought some were going to take off my head as they whistled past my head....So we decided that for mothers day we are going to Miller Park for a family day out. I know it is going to be busy, but when was the last time anyone went to a Brewer game when it was actually busy.....Should be fun.

Weak Beliefs

As she was reading my blog about what I believe in and she challenged me on my belief in love at first site. I argued for about a minute before I realize that she was right in that there are a lot of things that can happen at first site, but love is probably not one of them. Affection, admiration, attraction, a connection but love is something that takes years to build, is always changing and is completely adaptable where no one has the same idea as to what love is.

So with this love at first site is taken off my "what I believe" list.

My Dad blogged today about what he believes in...So here is my list:

smell of gas from a boat
the golf shot that brings you back
continual improvement
holding hands
falling asleep cuddling

a good cigar
the way a baby grabs your finger

Mixed Feelings

Daylight savings is here....I have mixed feelings about daylight savings, especially in the spring. Mainly because we lose an hour of sleep, and lets face it folks we don't get enough sleep as it is.

On the other hand it means that spring is here and warmer weather prevails. Today it is going to be sunny and 60 degrees, how much do we love this? Now the kids can get outside and I can put away the gamecube for a while.

Oh by the way do you know anyone that wants a beagle? She is a good dog, we just aren't a dog family....More specificity we aren't a beagle family. I think we are more the old lab family. You know the ones that are just old enough that they don't go anywhere and don't really care. Anyway, snickers is a good dog for a good family, just not our family.
